A sun filled Pearse Stadium was the venue for the u14B cup final Vs Athenry. A promising game didn't disappoint, bringing excitement to the final whistle. Athenry started brighter, building a lead but Maigh Cuilinn made their mark on the game, defending well through Nicky Faherty and Eanna Cullen and Henry Lydon working hard in midfield.

An equally enthralling second half of hurling followed. Trailing by 6 points Maigh Cuilinn dug deep, chipping away with points from play, defending well and frees from Dara Walsh. High fielding from Noah Griffin turned over possession to build on. Thomas King in goals made a top class save to deny Athenry. Two second half goals from David Walsh, one in the last minute, and the game finishes even at end of normal time. Extra time was needed.

Athenry started the extra time well adding on a goal and a point. Maigh Cuilinn battled back with huge spirit as the second half of extra time began. The light was all but gone and hurling in near darkness a final pointed free from Dara Walsh was followed in the last seconds by a third David Walsh goal to tie the game.

Final score in Pearse Stadium: Maigh Cuilinn 3.8 Athenry 1.14.

All are so proud of this team and how they refused to give up, hurling right to the end. Well done to Athenry on such a great contest.

Special mention to the Maigh Cuilinn management team and coaches.
