Third time’s the charm. A second replay and third game will be needed to separate these two teams. The U14B Final pairing of Maigh Cuilinn and Athenry played out another stalemate this evening at Kenny Park. Athenry got the first point of the game but followed quickly by a free from David Walsh who got Maigh Cuilinn on the board, followed by a second from play. The first half was a tight game. Strong performances in every line, Eanna Cullen, Nicky Faherty, Conor Nolan in defence. In midfield Henry Lydon and Noah Griffin were winning ball in middle of the pitch,
A great save from Tomás King in the Maigh Cuilinn goal denied Athenry a goal close to half time. Athenry went into the break two points up, 5 points to 3.
Dara Walsh pointed a 65 early in the second half to keep the scoreboard going. Noah Griffin and David Walsh both added scores from distance. With the game level at 7 points all in the dying minutes, Rory Murray cut through the Athenry defence to point and take the lead. In the final seconds Athenry equalised to bring it to 8 points each.
A second replay to come and these brilliant lads will do it all over again. From start to finish this Maigh Cuilinn team showed incredible heart, skill, and no end of determination. As always well done to all the team management and coaches on the sideline for all they do with the team.
